Hidden Creek Equestrian IEA Dressage Teams

Hidden Creek Equestrian Center offers Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) Dressage Teams for both Middle School and High School. IEA is a format where middle and high school aged riders compete on a team in dressage tests and in dressage seat equitation. The challenge with IEA is that you do not bring your own horses, instead you watch the horses warm up, then at the coaches meeting horses are drawn. For the dressage tests, riders get approximately 2 minute warm up and for equitation there is no warm up!
Our teams were founded in the 2018/2019 season with one competition, and then in the 2019/2020 season is when our teams fully competed, having our Middle School Team Qualify for Regionals and many Middle and High School riders qualifying for Regionals as Individuals in various divisions. We open up our teams to riders throughout the area rather than just Hidden Creek Riders. A requirement to be on the team is that you take weekly lessons with your respective trainer. We hold monthly team practices during season which is very different from a typical lesson. In these lessons, the focus is learning to "catch-ride". We make the lessons mock the IEA competitions where the team members watch the horses warm up without knowing which they will ride for the practice. Riders then get to practice a dressage test (with 2 minute coached warm up) and an equitation class. Riders get feedback in both aspects as well as get use to the coaching style. We have two coaches who work with the IEA team, Jill Kuc and Becky Kuc. Becky also serves as the Regional President for IEA Dressage Region 11A which we compete in.
