2010 Ride 4 Hope Quadrille Challenge

This year, two teams are back to fight for the title of "Best Quadrille" and help fight childhood illnesses of patients at St. Jude's.

DATE: October 17th - Northeast PA Show Series Championships

HOW IT WORKS:  Two judges judge each quadrille freestyle. After the quadrilles are completed, spectators get a chance to vote for their favorite team. Votes come in the form of monetary donations. The judges' scores are calculated, and the amount of money raised by spectator votes for each team is added to the judges' scores to determine the highest score, and the winner of the challenge.

OTHER WAYS TO DONATE: Donations are excepted by participating riders before and during the Championships. There will also be a raffle at the show, and the money collected from raffle ticket sales will be donated in whole as well.

Background Information

The Sorcerers Quadrille Team, 2009

The Ride 4 Hope Quadrille Challenge was founded in 2009 after the start of two quadrille teams at Hidden Creek Equestrian Center. The teams decided to challenge each other in competition, and as the word got out, spectator interest arose. It was then that the team member decided to turn their challenge into a charity.

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital has a "Saddle Up for St. Jude" program that encourages large equestrian events to raise money for the hospital. The teams decided to compete at the NPASS Championships in October since there would be a large turn-out of people, and registered the Championships with "Saddle Up".

As the event began to receive more and more press coverage, the teams named the challenge "Ride 4 Hope". Helmet covers and team shirts were donated as discounted prices for aesthetics, and the riders picked music to choreograph their freestyle quadrille routines to. One team of four horses picked music from Harry Potter and named themselves the "Sorcerers" while the other, consisting of eight horses and riders, picking music from Peter Pan and named the team the "Never Landers"
The challenge was a huge success in 2009, as $2533.10 were raised for St. Jude's.

In February, 2010, members from both teams were invited to speak about their accomplishments at former Olympian Lendon Gray's Weekend Educational Program.
